30 Hour Famine Fundraising SHOUT OUT!

I’m putting this on my political page because I want to make a shout out. To politically left-leaning types: we can’t let children starve! To right-wingers–prove to the lefties that charity is not dead! To libertarians: the same! As many of my left-leaning friends often say to me, “we are all in this together.” So let’s help out. My friend Kurt is going all out to make this happen. Please donate! Here is the link:

From the page:

During this event we go without food for 30 hours and do community service project that help raise awareness for and help local and world hunger relief efforts. What this event teaches me each year is how each of us can make a big impact if our efforts come together through an organization like World Vision. Over the past 16 years I have read the depressing statistics such as ‘a child dies from hunger every 10 seconds’ … but looking back I realise that it used to read ‘every 3 seconds’!

From the time it took for you to read this, many children have already died of hunger, according to Kurt’s quoted statistics. Starvation is brought about because of government interference in the free market. So since we have to put up with thugs stealing energy from productive people and putting them into poverty, enlightened people like you and I have to take up the slack. And, since the time interval has increased from 3 seconds to 10 seconds, that means we are making a difference!

So what are you waiting for? Click the link and pledge! Thanks!

How to Survive the Coming Economic Crash – Freedomain Radio Interviews Woody O’Brien

Watch until the end. There is an excellent message of hope that I think we should all embrace. We’ll get through this–a post-collapse society will be a much more stable place to live.

Gun control, AZ incident and crazies that can buy guns…

Should anyone just be able to buy one?

Should anyone just be able to buy one?

I had an emotional and intense debate on Facebook about gun control sparked by a YouTube video I posted of an interview with the father of one of the victims of the shootings in Arizona. I was surprised that instead of calling for more Brady-style laws, he instead said the shooting was “the price of liberty.” Even though I appreciated the sentiment, one of my friends took that to task. No one should have to sacrifice their little girl for liberty, and my friend was right about that. Quite right. I don’t think this was the price of liberty. I think this is the price of negligence.

There is a problem with just selling guns to anyone–for someone who is mentally unstable, an instant sale of a gun means he has it in his hands and can go kill. Even perhaps someone who has just been in a fight and who is hopping mad and screaming for revenge, it is all too easy to just run down to the store, pick up a 9mm and shoot someone up. I think we can all agree that this shouldn’t be allowed to happen.

However, I have a very big problem with the notion that in order to have safety, we have to sacrifice liberty. The idea that the only way we can protect innocent lives is for the government to step in and either ban guns, or require that everyone register and prove they are mentally fit to carry a gun, well that’s an idea I just can’t swallow.

“Daddy, why did you pay me with a Federal Reserve Note?”

My eight year-old son and I have a business arrangement. He takes out the trash and I pay him a dollar. A couple of weeks ago, he did his job (well, I do have to remind him that it’s trash day, but he eventually empties all the baskets in the house and hauls the containers to the curb), but upon searching my wallet, I discovered I didn’t have any one dollar bills to pay him with. So I had an idea–I could pay him with a copper Liberty Dollar until I got enough change.

SMUD to Raise Rates–Don’t Blame the Free Market!

SMUD is proposing a major rate hike for electricity, blaming the recession:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29978318

There are those who are quick to blame capitalism, thinking that this is what happens in the free market. The trouble is, this has nothing to do with a free market. Notice that if you live in Sacramento you have only one choice: SMUD. That is because SMUD is a monopoly.

What happened to the American Dream?

The unchecked issuance of debt by our government, facilitated by Federal Reserve policies since 1971, has brought our great country to the brink of financial disaster. The organization that caused the problem, did not see this crisis looming, and has utterly failed in stemming the damage, is now taking actions completely outside of its mandate, while telling the public they have the answers. They have duped the American public for 85 years through the insidious use of inflation, and now they are trying to dupe the world into keeping their Ponzi scheme going for a while longer.

U.S. Economy : The Philosopher’s Stone

What an amazing video, chilling, and emotional! Ron Paul and Peter Schiff have been predicting this collapse for years and it seems slowly, dimly, the mainstream media is starting to hear them. Slowly and dimly.
